Behind Bee Sweet are Manya and Idris, who first introduced their ice cream tacos to the public in Kansas City, USA, in 2014. They’re now based in Kreuzberg, and it’s hard to imagine the market hall without them. Whether at the street market with their ice cream chest and little umbrellas, at Street Food Thursday, or at the Saturday markets, the two have long been an integral part of the vendor community.
In addition to their sweet creations—all of which are carefully crafted by hand in their own production kitchen—their stand is also a mini-blueprint of what makes Bee Sweet so special. Every detail here is lovingly thought out: the colorful signs with their prints, the little comic-style illustrations, the hidden tongue in the logo, the bright tablecloth, and the stickers on the packaged ice cream squares. A lot of work goes into everything, but above all, there’s a keen eye for detail.
Of course, in the end, it’s also about what you end up holding in your hand. In the summer, they offer a variety of ice cream sandwiches; as soon as it gets colder outside, Manya and Idris serve Pop-Tarts and s’mores. A visit to Bee Sweet therefore doesn’t just end with something sweet in your hand, but also with a feeling of happiness and a dose of childhood memories in your belly.
