Kind of like candy floss, but cold and tastier! Kakigōri is more than just an ice cream - it is a centuries-old Japanese tradition that was once reserved for the emperor and is now enjoyed at summer street stalls all over Japan. Masataka Namba brings this special craft to Berlin and shows how traditions are evolving and finding new ways.

The ice cream is shaved by hand from clear, slowly frozen blocks - airy, light and melt-in-the-mouth. The toppings combine Japanese craftsmanship with regional and seasonal ingredients: from deep-roasted persimmon leaf tea syrup from Nara with rhubarb kabosu sudachi jam and sakekasu cream to salted sakura blossom with sakura cream cheese, uji matcha syrup and black sesame cream. Kakigōri tells of moving traditions, regional influences and intercultural exchange – and is indispensable at the Naschmarkt in Markthalle Neun.

Sweet tooths of all countries, unite! It's time for the Naschmarkt International!

The suitcases are packed and we're off on a sweet journey around the world - our vehicles? Alfajores and amaretti, baklava and brigadeiros, churros and cheesecake, ladoo and lokma, mochi and marzipan. So fasten your seatbelts - it's going to be sweet!

With a large market for snacking and shopping, a colourful children's programme from the Neun cookery school and a sweet stage where real confectioners, chocolatiers and pâtissiers will be demonstrating their craft.
