Alex Ast

If you see someone fawning over the buffalo mozzarella at Alte Milch during the week, chances are it's our caretaker Alex. Probably the most culinary of all the caretakers, he comes from Beeskow in Brandenburg and grew up on Königsberger Klopse and beef roulades – his father's cooking had a big influence on him. Today, his Kreuzberg kitchen is a little lighter, but no less enjoyable. Alex is also skilled with his hands: as a trained carpenter and offset printer, he brings a wealth of expertise to our caretaker team – from screwdrivers to unusual repair ideas.

Even before the market opens, the hall's gates open: The butcher counter, cafés, bakeries, and some shops are there for you early in the morning. And it's also worth visiting after the market closes – for example, for a glass of something, a pizza, or to soak up the hall's atmosphere.

Team

We believe that lively markets make cities more livable. That's why everyone contributes with their own particular strengths: facility managers keep the hall in good shape, market organizers plan daily operations and events, and finance and communications staff keep everything running smoothly. Together, we ensure that Markthalle Neun is a place where ideas grow, neighborhoods come together, and food culture is made tangible.
