Schneeeule

Almost everyone is familiar with the sweetish green or red plonk - which also has a right to exist. But do you know the origins of Berliner Weisse?

Berliner Weisse had its heyday in the 19th century and was largely replaced by bottom-fermented brown beer in Berlin during the First World War. After that, it was hardly ever produced in the traditional way. By using historical yeasts from the bottles of the last breweries, the Schneeeule was born: a wheat beer fermented in the bottle with a practically unlimited shelf life. A piece of Berlin's liquid cultural heritage brought back by brewer Ulrike Genz.
