Maria Kalenska is an Odesa-born food writer and chef. Author of Cuisines of Odesa (Weldon Owen, 2026), she has documented recipes and stories from 100 Odesan families across ten countries. She founded Odesa's pioneering cooking school, participated in developing Ukraine's Wine and Taste Route, and founded the humanitarian initiative Bake for Ukraine to support her country during the war. Now based between Berlin, London, and Odesa, she dedicates herself to culinary diplomacy and preserving the food culture of Ukraine.

For two days, Odessa is coming to Kreuzberg. A market that brings together wine, bread, delicious food and beautiful things – and with it, a little piece of Odessa with its stories and traditions. There’ll be cooking, eating, storytelling and shopping. That's what markets are all about.

Food writer Maria Kalenska will be presenting her cookbook "Cuisines of Odessa", featuring recipes and stories from more than 100 families. Let’s remember: whilst war rages in Ukraine, people continue to grow, bake, cook and trade. Thankfully. Every bite, every bottle and every encounter helps to keep their culture alive.
