Normally, Street Food Thursday takes us on a journey across the globe. But this time, we're staying put in Taiwan.

As part of Berlin Freedom Week, the Markthalle will be filled with the authentic atmosphere of a night market on November 13: steamy, fragrant, loud, colorful, and delicious, of course. Anyone familiar with Taipei's night markets knows that it's not just about filling your stomach, but about life itself. It's about encounters, exchanges, and the little moments of happiness between a bite of fried tofu and a sip of lychee tea.

On this evening, we're not only serving up good food on your plate and chopsticks, but also a piece of community. This is something that is always celebrated at Markthalle Neun, because what could be better than eating together? Every Thursday, the diversity of our street food market, with its many stalls, fills the air with delicious smells, sizzling sounds, and tasty flavors.

In addition to the regular stalls, special guests from the Taiwanese food community will be joining us on November 13. Mibap, who started out as newcomers at Street Food Thursday in 2019 and now run their own restaurant on Torstraße, are returning “home” for one night. DaoDan will be bringing creamy ginger tofu and homemade winter melon tea. Overcomer will serve bubble tea in all colors and flavors. Chen will also be there. He is well known to our hungry regulars. Every Thursday, he cooks up a storm in the hall with his wontons, wonton noodles, and distinctive spring onion and cilantro toppings.

The Taiwan Night Market is part of Berlin Freedom Week. A week in which Berlin celebrates the openness and diversity that make up a vibrant democracy. The fall of the Berlin Wall shaped Berlin like no other event. Today, we celebrate this freedom in many different ways. Throughout the city, in every neighborhood. And here, of course, with what we do best: good food and a place for everyone. Because love and freedom simply taste better when you share them.
