Network
In addition to production, retail and gastronomy, Markthalle Neun is also a place for projects that are concerned with our future. Those involved in the hall provide impulses for the ‘how’ of food supply in the city, the connection to rural areas and the necessary social debate about a sustainable and globally just food system.
Kantine Zukunft
In 2020, Kantine Zukunft moved into Markthalle Neun. Fitting, because for Kantine Zukunft, the ‘how’ of communal eating is the decisive lever for the sustainable transformation of our food system. The team around Dinah Hoffmann, Philipp Stierand and Patrick Wodni works together with Berlin kitchen teams to further develop the quality of urban public catering. Whether hospitals, day-care centres or large state-owned companies and federal ministries - everyone should eat better!
Die Gemeinschaft
As members from the very beginning, we are delighted that we have the team behind Die Gemeinschaft e.V. at Markthalle Neun every day since 2024. Die Gemeinschaft is a network of people in the food system who are aware of their shared responsibility on the plate. Together, we are committed to a new food culture. In concrete terms, this means a better food system in which we as an industry celebrate real food, produce in a regenerative way, buy fairly and in a way that conserves resources, value artisan crafts, work together mindfully, share knowledge, create better working conditions and promote young professionals.
Kochschule Neun
As part of the cultural association Markthalle Neun e.V., Kochschule Neun brings primary school kids, intercultural associations, senior citizens and youth groups from the neighbourhood into the Markthalle Neun. They cook, bake and chop together in various formats ranging from social cookery meetings to a food week with farm visits. Chefs and food artisans provide practical insights into their work and convey a love of food and everyday eating culture. The basic idea is that a sustainable and healthy diet can be affordable and enjoyable at the same time.
Über den Tellerrand
We have been working with the ‘Über den Tellerrand’ association for over 10 years - this friendship has also grown out of the firm belief that eating and cooking together brings people from different backgrounds closer together - to exchange ideas, discuss, get to know each other and make friends. The team and volunteers around the association regularly organise cooking get-togethers, celebrations and gatherings at Markthalle Neun. We couldn't be happier about that!
Magnificent 7
Our inclusion in the Magnificent 7, the seven most important market halls in the world, is a special honour for us: Borough Market in London, Queen Victoria Market in Melbourne, La Boquería in Barcelona, Sydney Fish Market in Sydney, the Great Market Hall in Budapest, Pike Place Market in Seattle - and Berlin! The same applies here: we can only successfully shape the future together and in dialogue.
