August's Street Food of the Month
‘Every metropolis lives from the mobility of the people who live in it - people come and go, bring their personal and cultural traditions and leave behind a contribution to the complexity – and thus to the special character and attraction of a city,’ says author Ursula Heinzelmann.
Since 2013 and every Thursday, our street food traders have been showing what makes this city so special: Their culinary stories. Every month we introduce you to one of our street food traders.
Jarú Peruvian Street Food is one of SFT's many success stories. After Eric completed his cookery training six years ago, he was determined to realise his own concept based around his native Peruvian cuisine. In doing so, he makes the cultural diversity of the country palatable: Influences from the indigenous population, the Spanish colonial period and West African, Chinese and Japanese immigrants. He started his stall in Markthalle Neun five years ago. He now also serves Peruvian delicacies in his own snack bar at Holzmarkt and from his food truck. The ceviche from Olli, Carla and Eric has become an integral part of SFT. The cold-cooked fish is served with fresh seaweed, onions, sweet potatoes, roasted corn and coriander. What exactly is in his leche de tigre must of course remain a secret.
