Doors and arms will remain open in 2026
2026 is already here, and our calendars are full—but let's take a moment to reminisce about the past year: memories of market strolls, lunches, and countless good reasons to continue doing business together, because:
The market makes life more beautiful
In addition to the daily market activities, we spent 2025 together at long tables, in open kitchens, and enjoying convivial game nights. The youngest members of the neighborhood traded and bartered at our children's flea markets, while we pondered big ideas like freedom at street food markets. Europe's cheese artisans made their way to the capital for the 13th Cheese Berlin, winemakers from around the world celebrated a 10-year anniversary at RAW WINE, and sweet and sour treats from all corners of Berlin were on offer at the Naschmarkt International.
Leadership with attitude
Big changes: Since 2025, Markthalle Neun has been run entirely by women. Our long-time companion Olga Graf has taken over the management – with a clear vision: livable cities through vibrant markets. The cultural association also has new leadership: Jonna Meyer-Spasche is developing projects, expanding networks, and strengthening sustainable cultural diversity around Markthalle Neun with the Kochschule Neun cooking school.
The doors are always open
For the first time, we opened the doors of the hall with “Open Doors” so wide that completely new perspectives became possible—behind the scenes, into the productions, and into the stories of the people who make the market what it is. Masterfully portrayed in the exhibition “Arbeitsort Markthalle” (Market Hall as a Workplace) by photographer Carla Ulrich. It was a good year, with farewells, innovations, and new arrivals. With good food, open arms, and the firm resolve that the market is always more than just a market: namely, a place for community.
Outlook for 2026
So, get out your calendars, grab a pen, and start marking your calendars. We have a few treats in store for the new year: Let's start with the reliable classics: The weekly market is open every day, with Friday and Saturday being particularly busy. They are the backbone of the hall—week after week, rain or shine. Meanwhile, behind the scenes, planning, pushing, and tinkering are already underway. This means that in 2026, in addition to the weekly Street Food Thursdays, there will once again be special markets. Not least because last year's Taiwan Night Market was so convincing.
Every first Monday of the month, the dice will be cast: starting in February, game night will always begin at 4 p.m. On Sunday, February 8, the little ones will take over the aisles. At the children's flea market, they will swap, sell, and fall in love again—with toys, books, and things with a good history.
In February, we will celebrate two street food specials: Lunar New Year on the 19th and Café Kyiv on the 26th.
Sweet, sweeter, sweetest—it's happening for the 15th time on Sunday, March 29, when Naschmarkt International returns and sets the stage for a culinary variety of sweet treats. Perfect timing for anyone who ran the half marathon in the morning: afterward, candies, cupcakes, and a quick sugar boost await.
And of course: Cheese Berlin on Sunday, November 8—a must for all serious cheese lovers looking to broaden their horizons. As every year, producers and enthusiasts make their pilgrimage to Markthalle Neun to celebrate the diversity and craftsmanship of cheese!
